Salt

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

During the Roman era, soldiers were compensated with portions of salt (it was, and it still is, the main preservative for food ) called “Salarium” (Latin for “of salt".)

Later on, the “Salarium” went from salt to real money( it became a stipend) but the term remained.

“Salt”, in Italian “sale”, was always considered very important ( as a matter of fact  “Cum granum  salis” – with a grain of salt- is still used in Italian and in English ). There are a plethora of expressions that contain this word but the following one by Pythagoras it's my favorite:

"Salt is born of the purest parents: the sun and the sea."

That’s it for today, time to make some salt..

Pier.
