"Giovane" in Italian means 'Young". It comes from Latin "Iuvenis" that is also the origin of words like "Juvenile". So what does Holden have to do with it?
In Italian the novel "The catcher in the rye" by J.D.Salinger was named "Il giovane Holden" due to the fact that other titles would sound strange or too funny.
Interestingly enough, there is more than one theory that Salinger got his inspiration reading "Pinocchio" and it may be a coincidence, but the first edition of "Il giovane Holden "in Italy
has a sketch of Holden with his body crumpled like the Italian marionette..
That's it for today..
Be young be a catcher!
Pier.
