In vino veritas

That's what the Romans used to say:"In wine there is truth". Now the question is"Are water drinking individuals all liars?".

It was Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus ( the less famous one) who in 280 AC ordered to cultivate grapevines all over the Empire, from the Hadrian's wall (Northern England) to Pannonia (Hungary). Wine at that time was very different; it was similar to honey and it had to be mixed with hot water and spices during winter time, or cold water ( they used snow to chill wine) during Summer time.

It was Julius Caesar who brought grapevines to France, and even the name "Champagne" comes from the Latin "Campus" (meaning "Field"..sorry my French friends).

Now it's time to go to tell the truth amici miei..

Pier.
