Parasite

Updated: Sep 12, 2020

We all know the meaning, the movie etc. etc.

Its etymology is intriguing and worth reading it..

"Parasite" (in Italian "Parassita) comes from Latin "Parasitus" from "Greek" "Parasitos" (from "Para" and "Sitos" "Food") meaning somebody who eats other people food.

In Ancient Greece it was a honorific title given to elected civil servants who sat next to the supreme magistrates; the meaning that we know today was used for the first time only two hundreds years ago as mentioned in scientific books.

And that's it for today, time to go and eat my own lunch..

Pier.
