Sober

In Italian and Spanish is “Sobrio”.

“Sober” comes from the Latin “Sobrius” from the prefix “Se” (Without) and the word “Ebrius” ( inebriated- same origin ).

It came to English through the  Old French “Sobre”; in Italian - as in French - it’s mainly used as a synonym of  words like “Temperate”, “Rational” or “Tasteful” rather than “Not affected by chemical substances”.

And that's it for today; time to go now, I have a wagon to catch..

Salute

Pier.
